We were surprised. We dug the pond roughly 25 years ago. Last year I caught one just shy of 8 and we were shocked. Today is the best day we've had.
A few questions: how did you stock it? How big is the pond roughly? What is the depth at the deepest part?

Stocked it from a fish truck. Bass and bluegill. I was only a teenager at the time, so I don't remember the details. We still stick bluegill and fathead minnows in there. It also has crappie in it. We take out about every crappie we catch though, and dad fishes it a few days a week. It's about 3 acres and deepest part is about 10ft.

The new one was stocked with half Florida strain and half Northern strain... and bluegill. It's about 7 acres and wound up being more shallow than it was supposed to be. Probably 6-7ft at the deepest. Plenty of brush in it, some pea gravel, etc.

That is awesome. It has to feel so good to have a day like that on a pond you guys built yourself. Always been a dream of mine, maybe some day....
Thanks for responding

Nice! I put in a couple of new ponds about 10 years ago, each about 2ac. I simply stocked them from another larger pond on the farm (about 3-4ac). Any 1/2# or so bass I caught, I moved to the new ponds. Since then I have stocked some bluegills & shell crackers several times & even moved some larger bluegills caught from the larger pond. The older, larger pond (about 25yrs old) has yielded several healthy 7-10# bass over the years. A young fisherman from down the road caught an 11# bass from one of our newer ponds last spring (& put it back). Have been pleasantly surprised at the health & fish growth in these newer ponds. Love fishing them with my grand children too! Especially since the idea for the ponds was primarily for retriever training.

Don't get much funner than that! Congrats. Golf today or fishing? lol
Fishing a club tournament on KY lake. Practiced today and tournament tomorrow. I should have skipped it and played golf. I know nothing about KY lake and I had two bites all day. Ouch!
