So far, all things considered (continuing rain), our crappie season on Chickamauga Lake has been decent. So far we're averaging 20 keeper crappie (10-inch-plus) per trip... mostly half-days. Catching 5.16 keeper crappie per hour. Statistically, that's pretty good.

We didn't start crappie fishing until late February. Water conditions and weather were too crazy. Water conditions have stabilized somewhat, but weather continues to be a factor. One of my favorite areas got blown out (again) this week by mud from heavy rainfall. Daily success is dictated by wind and rain. That's not unusual for March, except for much more rain than normal.

Of course standard technique is long-line trolling... 1/16th oz. jigs (Road Runners plus Crappie Magnets) on 6 lb. test line. Due to crazy fluctuating water levels we've caught fish in 6 feet of water up to 20 feet of water. As my buddy says, "When you're trolling it doesn't matter where you, as long as you keep going."

Heading for the lake again now. And remember, crappie are Corona-free. :D
