Storms overnight , question

Anyone ever had a tom jump roost when there were storms overnight? Forecast is calling for some rain and wind all night with this front blowing in. I just watched a tom fly up, and debating whether I need to call my work place or not. Lol

I almost killed him but wasn't comfortable with the shot being clear enough.

Don't know. I do know that the only time I roosted a bird late afternoon with a storm like we have coming that it rained so hard the bottom flooded and I couldn't get back in there the next morning.

this ones on a ridge. I'm mainly concerned the wind would blow him out and he'd be somewhere else. But it's worth a shot if I can get off work.

I've seen them roost hop even on clear nights. No telling with turkeys they can and will do anything and everything. Only one way to find out and that's to be there

oh I know they can hop at any time, just was wondering if anyone had experience with storms making it more likely. Guess I'm overthinking it as usual. Might need to be on this ridge in the morning regardless.

They could.

But I'd make my plan based on the most recent information you have. Fact is he roosted in X tree. I'd plot my strategy around that.

I've had them move on clear nights. This is pure speculation, but I would bet they are less likely to move on a stormy night. It would be hard for a big bird to move around at night in that kind of wind. I bet he hunkers down.

I just got in from roosting a pack of birds myself. Set my alarm for a few minutes earlier...with damp pine straw and leaves my plan is to get right cozy with them in the morning. Maybe they hop and maybe not but I'm staring out based on where I left them.

I'll add this... I had a big gobbler working one mid afternoon. There was a storm rolling in fast. The skies were getting dark, the wind was really picking up, and it was beginning to spit the beginning of what would become a deluge. I wanted to put my wife on a bird the next morning so I backed off this bird but not before I watched him fly up to roost between 3:30 and 4:00 in the afternoon. I'm guessing that if the weather was getting so bad that it drove him to roost that early in the afternoon and that if the weather never let up until almost sunup the next morning he was probably inclined to stay on roost overnight. That next morning I could faintly hear him gobbling off roost from the same area but couldn't get to him because of the flooding.

With the storms we are having tonight, and the wind in the morning, I think I might pick a better day to be off (unless you have a bunch of leave time to burn).

about half and half in my experience. Birds I've roosted on the top of a ridge have often moved to the lee side of the hill during nights with a strong line of overnight storms. I don't really think they got 'blown' off the limb, but chose to relocate.

They are smart critters when it comes to weather. It always amazes me how much birds like to roost up high during fair weather, then down in the valleys during severe weather afternoons.

he was still there, gobbled good on the limb. Flew down behind some buck brush in front of me. I yelped a few and waited. Few minutes and I hear something to my hard right. Here come 3 hens out of thin air, never heard or saw them before. I can not move as they are less than 10 yards and the strutter is at 15. They get behind me and by the time I can swing around, they're out of range and headed out of sight.
So I went to a field and found 6 strutters with a bunch of hens. They did the usual field bird thing and went all over the field except where I was sitting. Finally they started to break up and i tried moving on a strutter but they got ahead of me. Most recent update is I found a couple dozen turkeys in privet thicket and watched them fly the creek one at a time. I think maybe a couple of the toms were with them. They never busted me.

Great bird Boll Weevil! Dude didn't like or need to fight for sure. Best spurs posted on here this year so far I think! Congrats!
