I finally got brave enough to turn this blank. This is very hard to get and not cheap if you can get any. This blank had great dark green color and was very uniform. I made the mouthpiece from desert iron wood. Thought you might like to see how it turned out.

Like anything practice practice practice. You don't need to spend a fortune on equipment no matter what you hear and get a set of carbide tools from Penn State Ind and a utility chuck. You will be good to go. If you have any questions let me know I will pm my number and you can give me a call.

Looks real good. I've been wanting to get into turning a long time. Been looking at some lathes online. Mainly to turn some slate pots.

The $200 mini lathe from harbor freight with a penn State Ind utility chuck will do everything you need. A set of their hss tools and a set of carbide tools from Penn State and you are good to go and they will do tons more. Bowl turnings can be done with that set up.

I want to do some of the available kits to give away to my work team members as Christmas gifts. Figure I can do something like that because I'm cheap, then do some game calls and strikers. I may be delusional, but want to kill some critters with calls I make myself.

That looks top notch, piece of art.... I have to ask, how does Osage get mud cured? Does it have to sit in a swamp for years or what?

I built s few kits when I was learning. Found out quick they didn't sound anything like I wanted. Blanks can be a lot cheaper and if you need some I can supply some. I always have some for sale and am processing more all the time.
