    Food Plots Another clover post

I tried this (by accident) last year, and the results were phenomenal. Best Crimson Clover plot I've ever had! I bet there's close to 50 lbs of "free seed" per acre in those plots after the clover has seeded out and died. And by the way, my Crimson Clover was dead and ready to be mowed by...

    Food Plots Another clover post

tntrkkllr, I'm assuming that's Crimson Clover from the picture? If so, your mowing did not kill the clover last year. Crimson Clover is an annual - it grows one season and then dies. It will die in May no matter what you do to it.

Doe with spotted fawn on April 12 ?

Newborn fawns have been observed every month of the year, so anything is possible.

    Buck bedding behavior

Same. The craziest ones are the pictures/videos I have of bucks lying down and falling asleep right in the middle of big traditional scrapes!

    Buck bedding behavior

This is VERY true of the ridge-and-hollow hardwood areas of the Highland Rim where I do most of my research. In fact, these "points of spur ridges" - which I call 'secondary points' - are THE places to look for big signpost rubs, usually on cedar trees.

    Food Plots Crimson clover

This is my plot with the shortest growth. Some plots are 6-8" taller than this. Again, I've never seen Crimson Clover grow this tall.

    When to put out cameras

I run cameras from the first of August until mid-January. You can run them any time, but the big problem with early summer is the bucks' antlers are growing so fast that week to week you may not be sure if two buck photographs are the same buck or not.

    Buck bedding behavior

Sadly, much about what is taught on YouTube and in hunting magazines about deer behavior is BS. Deer are somewhat creatures of habitat, but constantly changing their routes/behaviors is also a defense mechanism. The more predictable they are, the easier they fall to predators, so it is built...

    Food Plots White Cloud Clover

Interestingly, while looking at my mature, blooming crimson plots today, I found a couple with bright white seed heads. Never seen that before.

    Buck bedding behavior

Well said 102. Deer adapt to their environment. Deer follow very different patterns in the wide-open big-ag regions of the Midwest than they do in the hills and hollers of TN, or the swamps of the Deep South. It doesn't take them long to figure out what patterns increase their safety the most...

    Buck bedding behavior

Not bedding in the same circumference of accuracy of the GPS unit (7-meters). In fact, none really came close. Maybe 50 yards max, but usually not even close. The deer would bed 4-6 times per day, wherever they happened to be on their daily routine at the time, and their daily routine shifted...

    Mayapples

The big acorn crop from last fall, possibly mixed with some unique weather conditions, has produced the biggest oak sprout density I've ever seen this spring. I can't believe how many little oak sprouts I'm seeing in the woods. And deer love those!
