A couple of weeks ago I had the time to attend the Dallas Safari Club convention in downtown Dallas, TX. I have never been to the big SCI convention which is in Las Vegas this year, many years it has been in Reno, NV. I will encourage you if the opportunity presents itself to attend.

Anyway, it was an eye opener for me, just a regular guy who loves to hunt and has been after them for 50 years. This buck took my fancy and yes when i first saw it thought it was a fake.

It is a buck from http://www.dakotawhitetails.com. A deer farm in Ohio. I believe the buck is still alive and is 5.5 years old. These are reproductions of his horns from last year.

 
Only a mounted deer could hold those up. I didn't know 600+ was even possible. That's what happens when man tries to improve on nature. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing I guess.
 
well if they are genetically manipulated then it kind of doesn't count as a record for whitetail deer does it? Maybe for farmed deer but not for wild deer as we know them? The antler craze has gone too far that we put the critters through too much stress (holding up their own head) just so someone with deep pockets can pop a bullet through one while it eats protein feed. If that's what makes deer hunting worth it for you, you're deer hunting for the wrong reasons.

I agree man. I just don't even like the looks of that. It's just weird to me and I don't see the point of raising them like that.

Thought I would share a few more............Am still chewing on the Cowboys loss......coffee is hot and thinking about what is in store for Mr. Trump and America this week.......
















I am not a score guy and prefer to put my money into doing it myself. My money tree works as well as yours and needs constant watering. Some people prefer to just shoot and not hunt and that is their prerogative. As long as it is legal have at it. It seems prices are only going one way.

 
There is at least one you tube video of this Ohio deer farm. The one I saw involved some very well off people who would sit in an elevated blind and one or more deer with gargantuan antlers would appear out of the forest. A farm guide would tell them which one to shoot, bang its over.

I think the price was $25,000.00, may have been more.

And can you imagine the wild stories they are gonna tell their buddies about how hard they hunted for that buck. SMDH
 
Some people have more money than sense and quite possibly, no sense of what hunting is about. Nothing you can do about that except shake your head.

Deer farming.... I guess there's enough of a market to make it a goal to some and I'd be the first to admit that it's amazing at what they can manipulate the deer to produce. (Better living through chemistry, lol). I'd be lying if I was to say that I wouldn't love to shoot a deer similar to some they come up with but it would have to be under real world conditions and I highly doubt that's even possible.

It would be interesting to know exactly just what manipulating (aside from feed supplements) is done to achieve the results of your 600" buck and those likewise. I'm sure genetics plays a major role. I don't know if there's any truth to it but I've heard that some of those non-typicals' antlers are scored or notched to produce abnormal growths leading to their crazy growths??? I could see that maybe resulting in a 1 year growth but would that carry over into subsequent years?

Mike I'm sure they do a lot of line breeding to get those deer to produce those giant racks. You take a buck and a doe from the same bloodline and possibly brother and sister of known rack producing DNA. Do it for several generations and you start getting deformed deer in the form of giant racks. No telling what other health problems those deer have. You can only line breed so much before you get 5 legged or two headed deer.
 
A teacher at my daughters old school has a cousin who runs a deer farm in Ohio. It's the home of the xfactor deer. I know he's been in trouble transporting deer and we didn't talk about it much after I told her that wasn't my thing.

Farm grown, genetically enhanced, who cares!! That is a giant!! I'm not saying that I agree with paying to hunt a farm raised pet. I'm just saying that is a huge buck.
 
If I were wealthy and wanted to add some racks to my lodge and get some meat, I would shoot one.
