Wood duck box

I am concerned about the Rip Rap and the wood duck chicks being able to safely jump out. Can anyone with experience give me advice on this please.

In nature they leap from hollow trees sometimes 30 feet maybe more. They weigh next to nothing so it's not a hard landing. No expert but I think your fine.

Should be fine. On land look to be around 6 feet on water 3 feet.

Looks great...dont see any issues...not a great pic but tried to zoom in on a mama wood duck yesterday driving by pond. I need to build some wood duck boxes.

I was always amazed how a Wood Duck mama could hit that hole in front of the box and be able to stop before the back of the box. God created some pretty good brakes for her.

I watched woodies fly into a hollow tree and they looked like they flew in at full speed.
They must have really great brakes.

No issue with the rip rap. We have 5 boxes and three are over rip rap. They do just fine every year. Two have flown out and three are probably due this week to exit. It an awesome sight to watch them from courting to nest to leaving the nest and watching them all summer.
