My buddy loves old shotguns.
His latest acquisition is probably his most valuable one dollar wise.
He lucked up on this one big time.
Winchester 1887 12 gauge (black powder)
30" barrel.
Gun was made in 1888 and looks pretty darn good to be 133 years old.
In fact he said this was the best looking one he has ever seen. He lives on gunbroker. LOL
Fun facts,
Winchester approached John Browning and wanted him to build them a lever action shotgun.
He declined because he was in the process of developing the 1897 and he said it would put any lever action to shame when he finished it.
This was in 1886 mind you..... they cut him a check for $50,000 and then he agreed to make the 1887.
That was a BUNCH of money back then !
His gunsmith looked this one over and he said he wouldn't hesitate a second to shoot it.
He said everything is just as tight and smooth as it was the day it was made.
It is chambered in 2 5/8".
I can't wait till he finds of box of black powder 12 gauge shells for it and see how much THAT will cost. LOL
Anyway, pretty neat and thought I would share.
Oh I forgot something:
If you remember the movie The Terminator, this was the gun he left the bar with. LOL
