I would have thought the hippo to be the most dangerous animal, but I guess the danger is all perspective to just where you're at, and just what you're doing there?

The hippo kills the most people as a whole because they kill a lot of fisherman, swimmers, campers, etc.

Most all plains game are taken with a 30-06, next caliber for larger game such as the Buffalo and giraffe is the .375 with a .458 as backup.

I have had opportunities to go for well under $2000, but flights, tips, and taxidermy/shipping always seem to blow my budget. I should have gone as a younger man! I'm 49 with a very active 6 year old and a wife with an antique habit. . I do love to safari vicariously though.

Question - is it strange hunting a giraffe? Maybe it's the petting zoo's I've been too, but I wonder how I would feel about it personally .

Just curious how far in advance do these hunts typically fill up? It's always something I have wanted to do but not sure I can commit years in advance with my schedule at the moment.

I went in 2011 and my entire trip including taxidermy was about the same $$ as a Yukon moose trip. Much more affordable than most people would imagine. Zebra, bushbuck, water buck, impala, red Hartebeest, Kudu, and 2 wildebeest. I used my 270 WSM with 150 partitions for most of the game but brought out the 338 RUM for some fun also.

The Cape buffalo kills more people in Africa while being hunted than any other. They have bad tempers, are very aggressive and react without cause. This is why they are called "Black Death"

Apparently they never false charge. If he comes at you, he's trying to kill you.

The money on mounts and shipping, take a thousand pics, that what you are going to show 99% of the people, a flight is an easy $1500 round trip, tips a couple thousands if it's a donated hunt, less if full purchase price. You can easily go for $7500 which is less than an elk hunt.

I agree everyone hunts different species for their own reasons. Definitely not knocking anyone's choice but shooting a giraffe wouldn't be at top of my list if I could shoot anything in Africa

I was surprised how affordable it really is to do a hunt in Africa. I have a few North American hunts I want to do , then I will probably make a trip to Africa to experience what it's like.

We feed a lotta local farmers and workers during our last trip to Africa. Nothing hunted in Africa goes to waste. When an animal is taken in Africa everything from the animal is used. This includes the stomach which is cleaned and cut up for soups, the large intestines is cleaned, stuffed with meats and tossed on the braai using the fat to help tenderize the lean meats within. They even use the stomach contents as fertilizer. Come to the Vous with all your questions about Africa, we will be set up front and center, pull up a stump and let's talk.

This used to be exotic and neat; nowadays it an unnecessary flex to us "peasants ". Hope u enjoyed
