What is the popular theory of when the second rut begins in Central Tennessee?
There can be distinct peaks in breeding activity, on a 28-day cycle. I've seen it on trail-cam and documented it with doe fetal measurements many, many times. No such thing, it ends when the last doe is bred lol
Yep. Biggest buck I've ever seen was in a bean field with 5 does on Christmas Eve.A few years back,I killed good 7 point chasing a doe December 31 so they might chase from October to January, this was In northern middle Tennessee
I always counted 28 days give or take a dayA month after the first, whenever that was locally.
Does that don't get bred will keep coming in. Seen a video of a buck mounting a doe in March once .Yep. Biggest buck I've ever seen was in a bean field with 5 does on Christmas Eve.
Absolutely not seen the best chasing of the year the past 2 days and not by small bucks eitherIs the rut over in Dickson Co?
Oh yeah. Obviously there are highs and lows as BSK alluded to, but for the next 6 weeks you should be in a stand as much as possible.Does that don't get bred will keep coming in. Seen a video of a buck mounting a doe in March once .
Full moon and alot of does got bred . Slow down mode .Absolutely not seen the best chasing of the year the past 2 days and not by small bucks either
I guess i go against the grain because every single year for the 30 or so years i have hunted them i always love the full moon.I see the most chasing and seeking during this time and according to my notes 85% of my best deer have fell between last week through the 3rd week of December for this area of west Dickson and Humphreys and Hickman.Full moon and alot of does got bred . Slow down mode .
Too true.I collected embryos from road kill and we had deer bred as late as March. Bucks will breed if they have receptive does.
