Funny what you get to thinking about in a stand sometimes.

What if somehow all humans just vanished.Aliens, war,God,etc, what would happen to deer populations?

I would think for the first couple years they would sky rocket. Not getting shot or run over by man.But then slowly over time,10 years or so,maybe more,

they would decline greatly.

Why?No ag crops, and those fields would mostly go to invasives like Johson grass, etc. No food plots,of course this is a much smaller reason. And no Timbering being done, leading eventually back to mostly closed canopy forrests, with little browse at all.

Yeah its been a slow weekend :)

We are very blessed to have a huge tract of land to hunt. It's a little over 5000 acres. We might take 4 does and 4 bucks a year off it. Over 8 yrs I haven't noticed a big jump in the population. You would think it they would be like magots out there. Side note it's 90 % cutover.

They would expand to the limits of the habitat's ability to support them (biological carrying capacity). Over time, as the deer ate away most of the food resources, and land now kept open to sunlight through Man's hand grew to canopied forest, biological carrying capacity would decline and deer populations would decline.
