We had great luck with the Ace Garrett 250, it lasted for about 15 years.
I forgot to remove the batteries a few times, and corrosion from that, along with 1 trip to the ocean finally did it in.
I'd buy another one for sure.
There's plenty of more experienced guys here though, they will chime in directly.

I have a Fisher CZ-70 Pro with 3 coils I would sell for $300. Full target ID and multi freq. One of the best coin and jewelry machines ever made and not shabby on relics either.
nokta simplex+. I done about two weeks researching this very thing. Out of all reviews and websites with reviews this thing won hands down. I have owned it for about 3 months and have been pleased with its simplicity and how well it finds stuff that higher dollar ones did not. Youtube is very good with explaining how it works.
