Congrats on the bird.
To answer the question, yes. Heck yesterday morning was pretty terrifying with lightening hitting the ground all over the mountain top.
However, my scariest moment came several years ago. I had walked into a place super early to hopefully be in the back pocket of some birds I had been chasing for several days. As it began to get hazy light a bird gobbled behind me about 50 yards away. with that hens start calling down below me, which at this point is perfect. I eek out a very light tree yelp and the bird rips it back. I've gotten to kow these birds a little and am assuming he will pitch down like before on the hill side in front of me and die. In a few minutes I hear him flap and come down only I hear him hit in the leaves behind me and gobble, no big deal the woods are greened out and I'll let him slide past and kill him. In no time I hear something in the leaves coming in right behind me, I don't move a muscle at it gets closer and closer and closer. Soon it is within a foot of my right shoulder and still coming, but it doesn't sound like a turkey in the leaves. With that out of the corner of my eye I catch movement coming along side me and its a dang skunk who is headed for my thigh.
At this point I'm stuck, the skunk is 12" from me and coming in for a pat on the head, meanwhile I can hear the dang turkey drumming not 30 yards away and coming around my left side. I decide the best approach is to ignore the skunk. They can't see anything hardly, so maybe he'll ease on by. Well of course that didn't happen, and the skunk ends up putting one of its paws literally on my leg as it tries to decide how to navigate past me. At this point I'm almost physically ill from everything going down and now the turkey pops into view and easily kill able, but if I shoot it the skunk sprays me.
I decide to just remain still and thankfully the skunk sensed something wasn't right and proceeded to move on, allowing me to kill the turkey.
Not a life or death situation but its as scared as I've ever been in the turkey woods.
