I'm gonna give this a try to keep the weeds down and keep'em from dry.

I have done that in raised beds with paper grocery bags. It works but also may attract slugs.

I think I'm gonna put some straw around them too.

Slug poison works very well. Had them and snails in huge numbers in California. Killed so many the smell got to be a problem.
