Baiting is NOT an issue for the turkeys.
This is the Agency's excuse because they've allowed the flock to be shot to 💩 the last decade.
My neighbor feeds year around, doesn't hunt em, likes to watch em, we got turkeys out the Arse!!
I don't hunt em, our adjoining property owners don't hunt em, therefore, the flock is not getting shot all to hell every Spring, so we have an abundance of birds.

What do you say then in response to the scientific studies that say it can produce enough aflatoxin to kill young turkeys?

Your neighbor's situation is different because those birds aren't hunted. They are also lured in with bait so that keeps them around. The combination of hunting pressure plus aflatoxins and propped up nest raider/predator population is not a good thing.

This is the silliest chit I ever heard! It's like common sense backed by science! I mean how could you bring that into a conversation?

Data and studies can always show you what you want the outcome to show.
I don't believe in the "My lying Eyes" theory. I've watched the old dude feed turkeys year round for 20 years. Turkeys out the wazoo…

Well you're lucky. Most here that turkey hunt or pay attention to it. Have numerous examples of turkeys completely disappearing. Sounds like you an exception not the rule.

I'm firmly in the no baiting camp. I'm more firmly in the no ballot box decision making on wildlife issues camp. TWRA needs to get ahead of this and make smart choices to keep the legislature out of historically fish and game matters. Ultimately the legislature has the power if they choose to exercise it. People need to get involved and speak up. Want to end up like Colorado or Washington? Let the legislature start getting involved in these types of decisions.

Do we really need deer season? Seems most of Tn is overpopulated and the agency is begging for more deer to be killed. Just thinking out loud.
^^^^Yet another unintended outcome of liberal limits.^^^^

Timberjack, long story short, unregulated hunting in this country is what absolutely decimated whitetails as well as other game before and after the turn of the 20th century, and it took many decades for the populations to get to where a state might create a Unit L. I'm not young but not too old, and I bet I'm not the only one here who was raised in a part of the south where when we were teenagers folks had to go to the mountains, big river bottoms or a relatively expansive WMA to find enough deer to hunt. There's a lot more to TWRA's reasoning behind Unit L than you might think, but you can think out loud all you want.

Honestly, we baited in Michigan with carrots, apples ,and sugar beets. I don't think it changed the odds much if any.
I agree. Used to live in the COMMUNIST state of New Jersey and EVEN THERE THEY ALLOW HUNTING OVER BAIT. They even allow a night hunting season coyote with a 223.

NOT HERE IN THE "FREE" STATE OF TENNESSEE. Go figure!! It's funny, here in Tennessee YOU OR I can shoot loud guns off at ANY AND ALL hour of the night OR blow fireworks at any hour and completely disregard if your keeping the neighborhood awake,,, yet WE cant bait and hunt on our own property during legal hunting hours. NOT EVEN WITH A BOW.

Yea let's allow and plant 10 acres of corn ONLY to hunt deer and hunt over it BUT throw a little corn out and your Jammed up with the law. Sooooooooo STUPID.

It's sad they don't allow it. If anything it makes the deer population go up and that's a fact. People like myself used to feed the deer year round and let hundreds of deer walk (not shoot) just to look for that one huge trophy buck. Eat it yea but enjoy the antlers.

Everyone who don't care, should care and vote yes to bait. You would have way more fun with your kids and grandkids if they had something to look at while sitting in a tree stand or blind. It's wayyy more interesting watching all the wildlife that flock to bait then just sitting for hours looking at nothing.

Anyway my opinion means nothing though. We're all just sheep followers here in America. Thats why America is like the titanic, sinking. Too many stupid idiots making way too many STUPID laws. We all know the real reason. $$$$$$$$$$.

Is there a difference other than cost, sweat, and time spent between baiting and food plots? Unfortunately we will always have stupid in elected positions because it's hard to get smart people to run. 🤷‍♂️

Baiting is waste of time, well I say that and I have never baited. And planting a food plot is not the same as baiting.

Only time I have ever hunted over bait was one year in KY (it is legal there and I have been hunting there for close to 20 years now and never baited) and the only animal that even paid any attention to the corn was a couple squirrels. I hunt an opening in the middle of a thicket there. The landowner was being nice and put a pile of corn, I mean a PILE where I could see it (without my knowledge) and this is a spot where I average seeing 40+ deer a day. Not one deer ever even looked at the corn. NOT ONE! I have never baited and don't care to.
