The Wyatts modification is worth its weight in gold. I was loading for a good friends 300WSM A-Bolt today, and was seating bullets to fit the magazine. I had to use an OAL of 2.810", I got to comparing those to my 300 Saum loads and came to the conclusion the Wyatts made my 300 Saum the giant killer. The case size advantage is nill with the difference in OAL of the 2 magazines. See if you a agree. The coolest part is my OAL, loaded .005" off the lands is 2.970", this in a magazine with exactly that much room. What a marriage.

I payed a local smith $65.00 to mill the action and the bolt stop. I had to use a Dremel and cut a notch for the bottom metal for the new length box. It was breeze.

Yup, the Wyatt's boxes are the only way to go for the short mags and 284 winchesters built on short actions unless you are going to just shoot the lightest for caliber bullets (which defeats the purpose of the short mags)

They're also invaluable on the ultramags built on standard remington long actions if you like to seat close to the lands.

Tim,
I do agree that the SAUM cases might be the better design over the WSM case due to the COAL,at least on paper. One would need to work with both in more than a couple rifles to see if that holds up.That box helps thing out.,good deal.

BTW The WSM COAL is due to the magazine of the A-Bolt.Winchesters can be seated out a good bit further in most cases, can't say about others. My loads for the winnie won't fit the box of the A-bolt,even then they ain't out as long that above.

I suddenly feel on much more even ground. I shot this rifle very little, but before the mod and was seating to the lands. Velocities of 3200+ for the 150`s impressed me.

Tim,

When did you have the box installed? Do you think it would be easy to mill the action yourself? (IE, ala Dremel?)

I got a centerfeed Wyatt's on my custom 7 WSM and it feeds the long bullets oh so sweetly!

Quite possibly after seeing the first one done. Tooling research may be the key. I have a small drill press and a carbide end mill bit might make it an easy task.

The Rimrock has the Wyatts magazine box option, so that one will be easy greezy.
