Some years back while hunting in Northwest Georgia I found a gun Flint. It did not appear to be a professional english-style Flint. It appeared to be what some called a spall or maybe a Native American attempt to manufacture a Gunflint. It had been resharpend a number of times and eventually discarded as gunflints normally are. It was in an area hard hit by market Hunters well after the flintlock era.
