Just got back from a SW national park road trip. If you draw a AZ or NM tag your timing could never be better.
The Kaibab and even southern deserts of AZ looked green. Cactus blooms and oak trees looked like they belonged in an arboretum.

Even saw a UFO while camping in the Lincoln NF at 8500'. although some say it was starlink, I'm sticking with my ufo story.

Let us know if you see any elk😄

Best of luck. That's some cool country, I've never hunted it but I've spent some time there. Actually, got chased by a couple Pyrenees. They didn't like me stopping and taking a leak off a forest road next to their sheep herd.
Will do. Our hunt starts Oct 15. When is your elk hunt?
We were there in 2020. Blizzard was coming in and was pushing the elk hunters out of the Bighorns. We were in sage country, but with 2 days of forecast strong winds and blowing snow, we cut out early. So I went to SD and bow hunted in single digit temps! 🤣🤣
