Will she make it?

Been watching this doe for about 2-3 weeks now. Can't tell if she was shot, hit by a car or attacked by something big. But she has a big plug out between her should blades. She seems to be getting around ok but sometimes will stumble off her front right leg. Other than that she seems healthy. Possible it will get infected and cause issues later? Wondering if I should take her out now or see if she'll survive. We've named her "Divot". Wife it trying to talk me into leaving her alone and let her heal. I think this gal has 9 lives. I decided to take her Sunday but when I pulled the trigger, "click". Primer didn't go off. 2 day later in the stand with my bow, she showed up and I grazed her back (patch of hair missing behind her injury) and missed her again 5 minutes later (arrow hit a limb). At least I didn't add any more injuries. Should have called her "Lucky". Even after all that she still keeps coming around. She might as well be a pet now.

Yea she will be fine. Last year I shot a doe with a big Divet in the top of her back just like this it had completely healed over. She might be a little more intelligent now

We had a calf years ago that had a similar issue. It was the 1st calf of a heifer that didn't keep the flies off of it and maggots ended up getting under it's skin on the top of it's back right behind the shoulders. It got so bad that the skin lifted up, dried and had to be cut off. Once we finally caught it and penned it up, we started catching it frequently to smear ointment on the spot, which by that time was bare muscle tissue. We cut the old skin off with scissors. This was an area about 8 inches square. Obviously this deer can't be caught and treated but it has the advantage of having this happen during Winter when there are no flies so it has time to heal unmolested. I'm not sure if the hide ever really grew back to cover that bare muscle tissue or if the muscle just turned dark but it sure looked like very short hair was growing on it's back when we sold the steer.

More than likely she will have a bare spot after it heals for the rest of her life. You will be able to pick her out with no problem.

She looks healthy in the last pic. She would get a free pass on my place forever just because I could ID her.

yeah, I think that's the conclusion. Just hope she sticks around and the neighbors treat her the same way. Would like to keep her around just for that reason. Who knows, she may mother that next B&C buck in this county!

I just wonder what could have caused that kind of wound. Looks bigger than a gun shot, unless it was a bazooka.

I had does with softball sized plugs out of their backs and hams. There were mountain lions confirmed in our county. Haven't seen any this year, sooooooo.

If it was going to get infected, it would have already happened, and she'd already died if it was going to kill her. Looks to be healing up fine. They're tough.

Yes. She will make it. If youll stop trying to kill her. Lol

She laughs at his every attempt! :)

Yeah, what my wife says. I'm a mere inconvenience to her, the deer that is. And well also the wife, to an extent...

I'm just waiting on her to come up on the front porch, stomp her hooves and say "c'mon man!"
