Well other than the drought it's just plain getting hammered.
I planted chickory, clover and DER in this plot. Chickory is cominhg up...slowly... clover is nowhere to be seen, and DER has been mowed to the dirt. The DER in my seclusion cage is 7" high, the remainder of the field is more or less gone. All photos on my field cam, with the exception of 1, are feeding deer at night between the hours of 10pm and 3:30 am. There were 274 photos in the cam in one week.
