Im looking at the 4 door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and really have an itch for one. I have been driving the same 4Runner for almost thirteen years now and am going to give it to my son soon. Anyone have any reasons I shouldn't get me one??

Are they good vehicles? Built to last? Any honest opinions appreciated. I like the looks but don't know much else about them.

From the other side, I have a very close friend that did body shop work for over thirty years. He advised me to never buy anything with jeep on it. He said they were the cheapest made vehicles on the road.

I have doubts it would even be in the same arena as your Toyota.

Yes it is hard to beat the Toyota 4Runner line but dang, I wan't something I can ride around in the summer and occasionally take the hard top off. But I also want something that is going to last.

I had a Jeep and would have another one in a heartbeat. But no way it would ever be my daily driver. They dont ride good and dont get the best gas mileage.

I took my top and doors off and just drove it on nice days.

I have a friend who got a used jeep Cherokee and it had some problems with the transmission and maybe one or two other things. I'm a Toyota driver too, bought my truck last summer and just recently put the 300,000th mile down and it still runs great. Oh and it gets somewhere around 25 mpg

I had 1 back in 95, and loved it
If you dont mind a little ruff ride, and the poor gas milage, get it. They hold the value petty good, for what i can remember.

I drive aright hand drive wrangler on my mail route, it currently has a little over 100k miles on it. The 04 I had for four years I put around 100 k miles on. The only problems I have had have been with electrical stuff. And the dealers have never been able to figure it out and completely fix some of the things. The 08 I have now has a deal with not going in to drive sometimes when coming out of reverse. They have replaced a lot of things and never got it right. The 04 had a deal with going dead sometimes. Everything pointed to crankshaft sensor, replaced that and did other things which never completely fixed it.just mainly electrical stuff. I would say the engines, trans, etc seem pretty tough and reliable.

I have heard the same from several different mechanics

They are alright looking, but never been fond of the ride. They are rough, have problems and have heard they are cheap made.

They get poor gas mileage for being the size they are. For 40 Grand, i'd buy something else, and a older cheap jeep for cruising with the top down from time to time.

No way I would buy a "heep" if I did, it would have to be under warranty! Dependability and fuel mileage sucks on a jeep, much better options out there!
