22 subsonic hp in most any brand is my go to ammo for squirrel heads…this rifle is fresh out of safe…haven't shot it in 2 years…25 yards, light variable breeze r to l, when I miss it is MY fault…old Ruger 10-22 with walnut stock and metal buttplate, Volquartsen muzzle weighted barrel, Jewel trigger, Tandemkross bolt, Nikon P22 2-7 scope…it has brought home untold numbers of squirrels since about 1995…(bolt and scope are newer)…
Show us your .22 squirrel rigs…

I've hunted them in the Pineywoods of East Texas and loved them in squirrel dumplings or fried. Use the CCI long rifle but never tried the subsonic .22 in my Ruger 10/22. Nothing like watching a good feist dog tree. I miss that.
She looks dialed in Plateau.
I used the subs in the area around Zavalla for a few years out of a long barrelled singleshot bolt action. Like the other guy said, those little black and greys would just sit there and keep cutting while their buddy nose dived off the limb.

Those Savage rifles shoot great…that little box mag gives a nice bottom line like the Ruger…good luck…watch out for chiggers, yellow jackets, and snakes…
I went 4 for 4 this morning, then missed one on my way back to the 4 wheeler. First time the gun has been to the woods. Im happy with it.
