Which gun

I'm a Remington 700 kind of guy but I do like the TC Ventures. Trigger is a little better on the Ruger American but they feel a little cheaper as well. Just my opinion though. Either of them are a good gun for the money.

I think some of the ventures had a recall, but I can't remember what for. May want to research that first.

My choice: 60s or 70s model Remington 700.

I own 3 T/C Ventures, and yes, two were recalled but me and the dealer worked out something so no skin of my nose at all.

Our 280 is scary accurate. Nosler book Max IMR4350 behind 140 Accubonds in R-P brass and 210M primers.

Our 308 is not so accurate but only two ladders through it.

Our 300 WSM has not been shot yet.

I sold a NIB 30/06 Venture to a friend who reports very accurate results.

I like the trigger. The bolt action is smooth. The 5R rifling definitely cleans easy. Safety is quiet. The stock is surprisingly good. The magazine does not fall out when properly inserted and I will admit there is a technique to learn. My Boys picked it up in 3 seconds I needed about 3 days.

Summary, I really like the Venture.

That being said, word on the Ruger is it is accurate and the trigger is nice. Twist for 22-250 allows heavier than 60 grain bullets. It comes in a lot of calibers, 6.5 Creedmore really caught my eye, but nothing heavier than 30/06 and no magnums or short magnums.

funny you put this up today, i was actually looking at both in person yesterday at Gander. IMO the Ruger just feels cheap to me (granted at that price point its expected in reality) and the bolt just looked like a hunk of metal slapped in there. The stock grip felt almost to small like it was a youth stock. Having said that the bolt throw was nice and very smooth i just could not get past the beyond plan jane look and feel about it.

the TC was better as far as the stock and bolt but the throw was not as smooth on it as the rugers was but the overall gun felt a bit more put together and less cheap.

they both are shooters for sure so go with what you like as far as looks and fit.

Marlin XL7/XS7's are in that price range as well. Great rifle for the price and very accurate. In addition, the barrels are swapable with savage and boyds makes an aftermarket stock for it if you are into customizing your rifles. The trigger can be adjusted down to 3 lbs saftely and easily.

I don't think the marlin/Remington barrels will swap with savage,

I have never done it but from everything I have read, savage barrels do work on Marlin XL actions. I have a Marlin XL7 in 270 with a boyds feather weight thumbhole stock and a packmyer recoil pad. I have some pillars that I am going to install, not that it needs it. Its accurate enough without them.

I have the american in 308 and would not hesitate to buy another. It is very accurate i like the fit and feel of the mag. The bolt throw is smooth. I believe you can get it in a carbine if you want also
I think pressfit has one and big lefty just bought one in .270
