My guess is armadillo. I have a few of those around one of my deer stands and I see them come and go out of them.

I dont know what makes all of em, but I have seen several opossum in the past few times in the woods, and all of them ducked into a hole just like the ones in the pics.

Going by my Guide To Animal Tracking & Behavior book (very good read by the way)

Most of the time (but animals can/will switch):

1 inch diameter hole: Shrew
1.5 inch: Vole, Mole, Mouse
2 inch: Chipmunk
2.5-3 inch: Red Squirrel
5-6 inch diameter away from water: Woodchuck, Skunk, Opossum, Coon, Cottontail
9-12 inch: Fox
1-2 ft: Coyote
Over 3 ft: Bear

And many animals just dig. My yard is full of holes dug my skunks looking for grubs.

Sometimes once a groundhog digs the hole a coon or possum will take over. The coons stink like crazy once they take over (one time in the crawl space of my old farm house)...I trapped them with balony (balogna) after having tried several other baits.
