I think it was dead before it's eyes bugged out.
Shots like that are why it took me so long to shoot my first deer.....and one reason why I lost my last one.
I didn't want to turn the first one's head into a canoe. And had I done it to the last one, it wouldn't have been lost.
Sure, it's a humane shot, but I'm not interested in the mess.

Wow, could have given a bit of a warning on that one. No interest in watching videos of animals heads exploding. Not even if you put it to classical music.

That looked like a " lets see if I can make this shot " so he could brag to his buddies. Not for me, but quick kill, and for sure no suffering.
