I tried out some of my slugs over the weekend. Well two rounds exactly. The first was a 700X with WAA12SL in a Cheddite hull, did not crimp well, needs an undershot card I think. It shot but did not achieve stated velocity. The Lee data that specified Herco with a WAA12 wad for a 1 oz slug, must be just plain wrong. It really needs a longer wad, like a WAA12L or SL. The crimp was so dished in, I did not expect it to perform well. And I was correct in my predictions, it turned out to be a blooper and I had a 1 oz slug about 6 inches down the barrel that had to be driven out. I'm going to try some Federal 12S0 wads with 700x and Titewad. The 12S0's seem to fit the Lee slugs better than any of the other wads I have.
Have you tried the cheerios trick to get a crimp? I don't know if it would work with a slug like it does with shot.

I found a recipe for .40 SW for a 165 gr Ranier plated JHP that travels 730 FPS. Very mild recoil and accurate out to 25 yards. Just 3 grains of Bullseye. Loaded up 250, but I have over 500 brass casings. I just don't see the need to load that many for plinking.

I loaded 12 rounds of 357s with 8.2 grains of Accurate #5 today , with 158 gr lead round nose bullets, They chronographed at 1050 fps. I went up 2 grains, the 6.2 loads ran 880 fps. both loads showed good accuracy, the 8.2 loads shot a bit higher, I have more experimenting to do with Accurate #5, I am shooting a Ruger GP 100, wolf trigger springs, and an old ultra dot . and the Ruger Alaskan grips, It's a vary nice shooting gun. A lot better than my Taurus tracker.

I loaded up 20 rounds each of .223 69gr SMKs over WC844 @ 23.2gr, 23.4gr and 23.6gr. All loads are at 0.010 off the lands. This workup started sometime last year and I got busy with other stuff and today I had time to get back after it. Two Remington 700s are gonna get to show me what they prefer tomorrow.

Looking for the range report later today buddy! I'm going to take both .22s out today to my buddy's place and see which one I'll be taking to the match in a couple weeks. Here's hoping that bedding job has helped the Bergara! 👍🏻

I did end up working on my wind reading! It's tough when you're still trying to find what does the best in a .22 to start with but end up wind reading and hoping for the best LOL
When we were kids we'd "walk" our .22 shots in on coke cans full of water at long range, like 150+ yds trying to hit them. We were pretending to be Jack O'Conner or Elmer Keith sheep hunting.😄

My son came over with motivation to help me begin getting items returned to their home. 2 out of 4 shelving units stored in the container got emptied so 2 to go then a trip to get powder and bring it back. I think he wants busy work to help keep his mind off it taking so long for the turkey opener!!
