Finally some news on this.

acob Runyan, 43, of Ashtabula, and Chase Cominsky, 36, of Hermitage, Pa., were each indicted in October on felony charges of cheating, attempted grand theft and possessing criminal tools and a misdemeanor count of illegal animal ownership and initially pleaded not guilty.

But on Monday, each pleaded guilty to a felony count of cheating and a misdemeanor animal ownership violation. The boat and trailer they used when they cheated was forfeited. The remaining charges were dismissed.

The pair is due for sentencing on May 11.

It will be interesting to see what they are sentenced with.

They screwed their whole life up by cheating. Only makes you wonder how long it’s been happening. Was it something they did for this tournament? I would strongly disagree. But has it been going on for months, years or decades? I’m going to guess that their whole professional career is based on cheating. Sad deal.

Indeed.

I'm a firm believer that one's sins will be found out.
It's not a question of "if", but a question of "when".

These guys were dishonest.
The price they're paying now for that will forever far exceed their gains from that dishonesty.

My hope is they have the hard way learned a life lesson
that truly changes them for the better.

But no one will ever again trust them in a fishing tournament,
something they apparently loved to participate.

probably pay some fines by pleading guilty. kind of stupid not to plead guilty and throw themselves on the mercy of the court. in a couple of years they can apply for felony expungement and seal the records.

although, i do hope they get some jail time so theyll have time to think about what theyve done.

"According to the Associated Press, both men will appear for sentencing on May 11, and a sentence of six months probation is likely. Cuyahoga County prosecutors will ask for expungement of the convictions if the men fulfill the terms of their convictions."

So it is expected they'll get little more than a slap on the wrist other than the forfeitures of a $100k boat and 3 years of no fishing licenses, according to the article.

They each should have to eat a 3oz lead weight!

Or have it shoved up their arse!!
Maybe following a treble hook connected to the lead weight with 50 lb braid?

At the very least and on top of everything else expected,
they should have to serve at least 6 months inside jail, 24/7.
THAT might approach some real justice for what they've done,
and actual deter or prevent similar crimes like this.

But if all they get is "probation" and the forfeiture of a gifted boat and some fishing privileges, that's really not much "punishment" nor is much deterrent to others doing similar crimes.

Our legal system is screwing up so badly that crime pays,
and the good citizens are the ones getting punished!
