It's been a while for me but if I remember correctly, $60K theft is a felony......I may be wrong or outdated.

If convicted, he's looking at a Class C or B felony depending on the exact dollar amount falling above or below $60K.It's been a while for me but if I remember correctly, $60K theft is a felony......I may be wrong or outdated.
We have 3 .gov vehicles at our facility. 2 dodge trucks and a way over equipped ford explorer hybrid. 2 agencies use the vehicles and i can promise you the gas cards aren't abused like that.It sucks that our fees and tax dollars are wasted like this...Many govt agencies have cars and cards....Wonder if that is happening in any other parts of our local/state/federal government... (rhetorical question for anyone that didn't get it...lol)
That's great that your area is being a good steward of the taxpayers money. The reason I made that a rhetorical question is because there is no doubt that agencies are misusing taxpayer funds in this way. There is no stomach for going after the waste and misuse because too many heads would roll. If you don't see it every day, you aren't paying attention. We have 3 .gov vehicles at our facility. 2 dodge trucks and a way over equipped ford explorer hybrid. 2 agencies use the vehicles and i can promise you the gas cards aren't abused like that.
Oh no doubt. I've been with my agency for 37 years. The first 10yrs, I did a lot of field work and we had to use our personal vehicles. Lots and lots of miles. I had friends that would ride me hard about cheating and turning in bigger mileage claims. The thought never crossed my mind and i'm glad the folks i work with here seem to be of the same mindset. That's great that your area is being a good steward of the taxpayers money. I think there is a lot of overkill in agency vehicles. That won't ever change until the "brother in law" isn't in the car business and gets the bid...lolOh no doubt. Our nrcs office didn't need that tricked out hybrid explorer either, but they got it. I will say that it's nice for the 1 or 2 long road trips that we have to use it on each year. Not needed, but nice.
You are probably right, but it should be the other way around. People in those type positions engaging in such criminal activity should be made examples of.likely would come with stiffer penalties- for you or I.

True, but September 18th, 2023 indictment.Old news
He won't go to prison for this offense. Although this seems like a lot of money, and it is, he will likely end up with a suspended sentence to be served on probation with some sort of restitution and a felony on his record. So I am wondering how they are going to justify keeping him on the payroll if he goes to prison... Notice I said if he goes...
Correct. Had to wait for the next grand jury to get an indictment.True, but September 18th, 2023 indictment.
$1,000 and up now. $2,500 and up higher level, so on.It's been a while for me but if I remember correctly, $60K theft is a felony......I may be wrong or outdated.
Oh curse ye for questioning!Makes one wonder how much more of OUR money is disappearing like this.
A lot of government purchases are just to use the budget money up for the year. That tricked out hybrid may have been that. Use it or lose it.Oh no doubt. I've been with my agency for 37 years. I don't think so. He's been at this for many many years. Using up budget money is getting a beer truck for your staff or upgrading/buying new equipment, not filling up your personal gas tanks to the tune of $60kA lot of government purchases are just to use the budget money up for the year. That tricked out hybrid may have been that. Use it or lose it.
I know this is dripping with sarcasm but I want to remind everyone, one bad apple doesn't ruin the whole batch. Law enforcement is no different than any other profession. The only difference is, LEO's have a lot of authority/power some, not all, let that authority go to their head and don't think the same law they are sworn to enforce applies to them. Let's not be to quick to throw the baby out with the bath water. There a lot of good LEO's out there doingOh curse ye for questioning!
It is impossible that anyone who dons a county/state/federal costume can only be a hero of unassailable character. Their self sacrifice for the protection of "civilians" must never be scrutinized. They are so highly trained that they never suffer the temptations, much less the sins, of a mere "civilian". On the contrary, they should receive even more funding for their glorius sacrifices and their selfless "service". There should even be a separate set of laws written for them since it would help them better "protect" the helpless "civilians". Anything and everything must be done to help "officers" carry out their sworn duties.
Never, ever question the authority of your betters!
