This is really going back. During the U.S. bicentennial in 1976 a bunch of us put on a living history event at Camp Boxwell Boy Scout facility up near Gallatin. The thing I remember most was that Dixie Gun Works loaned us a few Zouave muskets and donated powder. We supplied everything else which was lead and ball molds. Every Scout that wanted to cast his own ball then shot it a targets we had set up. What a day...I believe there was a couple thousand that took advantage of the opportunity. Don't think this would ever happen today. The pic is me holding an original Hawken rifle and the other was my 18 foot teepee....Shinin times so to speak.

After a week under canvas in the humidity, I’m not so sure that I could agree with the scratch & sniff photos…🥴🤣

However the smell of wood smoke, fresh brewed coffee and food I would welcome..

And then there’s always the memories ..

I can't imagine I'd ever be able to hit anything with all that going on. It would probably take a lot of practice, and determination. Back then I'd have just used archery EQ, haha.

If you concentrate on the front sight, you’ll never see it…
Almost as if it’s an illusion…until someone snaps a picture..👍

We have several left handed shooters in the group..👍

The lefty you’re referring too won the event…He only shoots a .54 smoothbore..
I’ve never seen him with a rifle, but he beats plenty of us shooting them…🥴

Easy peasy...basic marksmanship and just learning how to manage the intricacies of the muzzle loading flintlock. When ready align sights with focus on the front sight, squeeze the trigger and hammer falls, follow through. If done right, you'll never see the pan flash. Larry Pletcher has done extensive testing with high-speed equipment and determined that a flintlock ignition speed is around .05 sec (1/20 sec) slower than a percussion gun. The human mind can hardly perceive the difference.....What Smo said!

I did a lot of rondy-vu'in' when I was in the USAF in CA some years back... I'm NW of Nashville now, but have been thinking to dip my toe back in. Do you have any sort of schedule of events coming up this year?

My home club is in Ashland Ms..
The Hatchie Run Longrifles our next camp/ shoot
will be the 4 weekend of April.

Great group and a nice facility..

There’s another club in the Lawrenceburg/ Pulaski area, The Popular Hollar Longrifles, they hold monthly shoots and have a couple of camps per year..

The Poplar Hollar shoots are the 2 weekend of the month..
Another great group of like minded folks..👍

Hatchie Run no longer holds a monthly shoot..
