One of the first pheasants we ran into on the bird hunt gave us the slip. I was off-gun catching a video of the dogs, handler, and shooters (not that it would have made much difference), and when the first shot failed to take the bird down, he made sky miles all the way out of the field and out of sight back towards the farm.
So we swing back by the farm mid-hunt to regear, and I keep hearing this bird cluck that sounded very much like expletives. Sure enough, I spot the bird roosted up in the top of a big bush. The fix? Go get him! But try not to shoot towards the house, barn, vehicles, or fuel farm, please.
