I was referring to the rotors, I've seen them with extremely deep gouges in them although you're correct, where in the heck did the pads go?

In the mid 80's a fellow brought his 1 year old Chrysler K car by my shop. He said the brakes were pulling hard left, I advised him that the car was under warranty but he insisted I look at it. Well, I stared in disbelief when I removed the wheel. The brake pad was worn away and had worn the rotor down so far that the hub of the rotor separated from the disc part which was still held in the caliper with what was left of the pads. I could only imagine all of the grinding he ignored for what had to have been a long time. A new rotor and pads took care of it.

As Andy said when the greasy steering column of Barney's new car crept out into Barney's lap then fell like a dead snake, "I Don't Think I've ever seen anything like that before!?" Those brakes are flat out used up. :mrgreen:

Wow! The only one I have seen any worse was on a ford F250. The rear brake pads wore out and it eventually cut one of the drums into 2 pieces. The guys wife was behind him and flashed her lights to get him to pull over,(back before cell phones). She said there were sparks coming out from under the truck.

See guys, this is basic teenage logic. He knew the brakes were bad, he also knew that if I to work on the truck he couldn’t drive it, so he didn’t say anything about it. So now that a $30/45 min repair has turned into a $300 repair (plus I had to haul it home) the truck is currently sitting in my shop until further notice. Sometimes you just got to use a little tough love! :tu:

Sit there till he came up with $300 if it was me. Young men have to learn the value of vehicle maintenance.
