Have watched this buck for months on camera and decided I wanted to take him so I could get a pack mount to honor my father who passed away last year. Not the biggest deer, but was the perfect proportions for a pack mount, and a buck my dad would have been proud to have taken. I've hunted almost nonstop since the archery opener, and didn't see him until a week into muzzleloader. At last light he came into my greenfield, and as I was cocking the hammer, he stepped out of the plot and into the underbrush. Fast forward to this morning and I hunted an area of my property I've left untouched for two years. At 7:15 he came cruising through, and the rest is history. A 50 yard shot with the 30-06 ended him after a 30 yard dash. The photo is how I found him. Regarding the pack mount, Wilson's Wildlife Artistry in Crossville does these and uses memorabilia I've provided to finish it out. My father's compass, his hunting knife (which I used only for this deer), his father's carbide coal mining lantern, my canteen from when I was a kid, and a flannel jacket will adorn the frame. Can't wait to see the end result.

That's just to cool, please post up a pic of the mount when you pick it up. I love the idea of the pack mount in honor of your father, very special indeed.

Depends on who does it and what they have to provide. Wilson's starts out with the price for a full shoulder mount because he still has to buy the form and cut off the head, still tan the hide and do all the head work. Then he charges for the pack, the pack frame, and the board that it all gets attached to so it can be hung on the wall. And then the assembly cost. if he has to provide the things like canteens, bedrolls, etc, then it is more. Wilson is a premier taxidermist and has a 8-9 month turn around for his work, he is so busy. I'll be in this for about $900. I'd normally not spend that much for a mount, but I really like the pack mount and figure it is worth it to honor my late Father.
