These are only my second cellular cameras (first was a cellular Covert years back and I was not impressed), so I am far from an expert. I ran mine initially next to a "no miss" HC600 Reconyx and did not see much difference in triggers, if any at all. Since then, I have ran my one Reveal camera stand alone over scrapes. I have been more impressed with my buddy's impression of them than mine. He has used $300-450 Spartans for years, and while they are feature rich and a superior camera/app setup, he raves about how good the Reveals are for the price point. Due to his experience over the years, I value his opinion about them more than mine.

Worth mentioning is I have not updated the software on my Reveal camera. It has worked flawlessly in my opinion, so not rushing to push a software update when others have had mixed results with it. YMMV

Keep in mind the cell cam technology seemed to make a quantum leap in 2020, and it is somewhat comparing oranges to apples in comparing an older Spartan to any cam that was being sold after mid-2020.

Like you, I had also been "unimpressed" with the Covert cellulars, but not to say I wouldn't "like" them if I had just tested their latest model.

I was using some $400 cell cams prior to late last summer, at which point I added two of the $100 Tactacams, along with some others which had just come on the scene with a $200 purchase price.

Only referring here to my personal experiences, but those $400 cell cams remain superior in features & performance, but do not have the exceptionally good battery life of the $200 cams. Both the $400 and the $200 models have been very reliable. By my comparison, the two $100 Tactacam cell cams I have have been unreliable, and are actually costing me more to operate over 24 months than the $200 cams.

In the future, just like with laptop computers and the internet, I think we'll see an increase in cell cam performance & features, a little lower initial price point (with most brands), and a little lower pricing in monthly service charges (especially for those of us running larger quantities of cameras).

As to our getting "more for our money" in the future, we can thank all of these companies, as what we're witnessing in the cell cam marketplace is the free enterprise system at work. Their competing against each other for our business is what guarantees us the best values possible.

Would you like to sell those Tactacams you have? I'd be interested in them. I have several with no issues at all. If they have issues Tactacam has great customer service. I'll be glad to take those problems off of your hands.

Check your local Walmart. I just got an email from Tactacam saying mine and several others all over the state had them in stock. I haven't checked yet, but may be worth a try if your wanting to purchase one.

I didn't even know that Walmart stocked that brand. I just looked and could only find the little round action cameras.

Picked one up today for $99 at my local China mart. Gonna see what all the Tactacam fuss is about.

Just now seeing your question :)
Glad to hear Tactacam has great customer service.
I'll probably just keep these for use as "regular" trail cams over salt licks.
Heck, will likely even try their updated model this summer.

You missed one extremely important factor concerning the initial cost......the wife.
$99 looks a lot better than $200 - $400. 😆
GOOD POINT! 🙂

Very valid points LBL and I can see where the cost comes in.

I agree totally. And certain people tend to be able to pay more $ over a period of time than higher up front cost. It spreads their $ out longer even tho in the end they pay a little more. Also you can't count the battery cost at completely 100% accurate . As in my case about 4-5 months of the year my camera can run solely on a solar charger and the the rest of the time it can run 50% give or take on the solar charger and 50% of the time on the lithium batteries when shaded or cloudy days occur . All in all this is a great camera. Turn up the detection mode on high and aim at an area with more open area that doesn't have an over powering number of moving branches/ limbs or weeds . If set up properly , this camera can in "certain" cases most def save you money in the short term as well into the long term. Also can't wait for updated version even if adding 20-30$ on up front cost of camera just for upgrades , yearly inflation and etc.... !! Great camera , great price , great accessories (bear box etc...) !!! Great job Tactacam

LBL SORRY TO HEAR YOUR DISSAPOINTMENT IN THE (ORIGINAL) REVEAL camera. But my reply a few post back might give you a tip. Or might not. Happy Hunting lbl
