Got invited by a friend to hunt a place in College grove. My daughter asked if she could come along which made the hunt that much more special. We get out of the truck start walking to a large field and as he is saying they have not been roosting here very good a chorus of gobbles echo thru about 100 yards away. Birds gobbling on all sides at this point. We move closer & get set up under a large cedar tree. He starts lightly whistling and they respond every time. They (3 toms and 2 hens) fly down after about 20 minutes and start walking thru the woods to our left. He whistles again and the toms turn and start walking towards us. The lead bird was strutting at this point and the two others lagging behind i can see the lead bird has beard rot but I was not waiting on the others to get any closer. He is at 20 yards at this point & i shoot, he drops in his tracks. Was a great morning with my daughter and a good friend. 25lbs 7 oz, 5.5 inch beard (rot) & touch over 1" spurs and my hunt was over at about 6:40.
