St George island FL (pic heavy)

nice fish!!!

got back from Cape San Blas last week. I was just surf fishing in the mornings... seemed to depend more on wave action more than anything.

the one day I was going to rent a kayak and fish for specks in the bay the surf fishing was unreal.... I caught 4 Spanish, 1 speck, 2 pompano (short), one red (too long- 28"), and about 50 ladyfish... the bait ball never left the surf for over 3h and it was unreal. so I never got to rent the kayak that morning :).

a few guys who film a show for the Pursuit channel were a couple houses down from me fishing for shark... they caught one 6' bull that week, but couldn't land all the other hookups they had.

1/2oz jig head and 3" gulp new penny color with fluorocarbon leader is what got almost all the flounder.

LOL..thanks, that is exactly what I was using last year when I was down there fishing. I think I need to order some more for my trip this year. They love that new penny color down there. Once again, congrats on a great trip.

Very cool, I'm heading to Cape San Blas which is right next door to St. George Island in two weeks. Taking my boat to fish St. Joseph Bay. What did you catch those flounder on?

Just got back from there a few weeks ago. We fished with Cptn. Allen out of Presnells. Hit the Reds hard... A lot of the beach was washed away from the recent storms in April.

I launched my boat out of Presnells last year. I rented a house on the bay this year with a dock so I can just launch once for the week. Did you guys stay in the bay fishing the entire time?

Yes... Wore them out! mackerel, reds, trout cats and a few sting rays and sharks. Had 2 8ft+ Bull sharks circling our boat for about 5 minutes. You ever fish around the Island where those cabins are at??? Heard the guy went bankrupt and only has a keeper staying there.

Yes, I fished around there a lot last year. It is called Black's Island. There were people staying there last year but it could have gone under since then.

Try one of those ladyfish as shark bait. Like candy to them.

If you want more flounder, find a run out. Either a creek or a break in the sand bar. Fish a jig with shad style swim tail retrieved about 2" off the bottom, or a 3" live mullet or pogy.

Check the regs carefully if keeping sharks. Some are state and some are federally protected depending on where you fish.
