Can this line be put directly on a spinning reel spool or does it require backing?

It is recommended that you put a piece of electrical tape down first on the spool to keep it from slipping on the spool. It can also be put down on top of a few layers of mono for the same effect.

Backing is best and many higher end spinning reels now come with a separate spool for braid with a rubber ring on the spool to eliminate slipping.
