My personal "all around" choice would have to be a Remington 1100. Both wood or synthetic options. Get a Rem choke barrel and you're ready to hunt pretty much anything you want.

Check out a Retay Great guns for quite bit less than a Benelli. Basically same gun imo. Couple I've seen patterned shot extremely poa/poi.

Decide what kind of action you want first. Semi auto has lot of advantages. Other actions cost less though.

Plenty of good suggestions here, but I would stay away from the Mossberg 835. Kicks twice as hard as anything else!

I personally shoot a 20+ year old 870 Turkey gun with a 23" barrel for turkeys. I have 2 vintage 1970's 1100's I shoot for skeet, trap, and doves. When I've crossed over to waterfowl, I use the 870 with a 26" barrel.
