Picked my second lab up this weekend. He will be my next project shed dog. He is insanely smart at such a young age and will no doubt test my abilities to keep up with him. My other dog hasn't warmed up to him yet lol.



 
Awesome, nothing like labs. I have 3, I wished I trained mine to find sheds. I have a black female I might start working with to find sheds. My big male is so lazy he hardly ever hikes his leg to pee.LOL....
 
Good looking pup. I really want another lab. Have had 3 in my life. When we move to the farm some time in the future I will get another. IMO one of the best dogs you can have.

They stay booked. Think i reserved my pup about 7 months ago. They had 12 pups and had 10 sold before the litter was even born.
 
I trained mine to find sheds, and she loves it at home! However in the field she's much more interested in fur or feathers, than bone... She's got to where she doesn't do to good anymore... She's a good blood trailer/ dove retriever tho! I dunno why it happened, I always pushed antlers on her the hardest. And in all her training it's the only thing I ever treated her for..
Honestly I'd rather her be better at tracking I guess anyway.. It's really not that she's better, she really has a nose for antlers, she just would rather track the deer that dropped them than pick them up...

Blood,feathers, and fur are MUCH more fun than an old antler that just lays there and has no blood/meat... It's their natural instinct to want to go and retrieve something they know is there unlike the possibility of MAYBE finding an antler. If you want a true shed dog I wouldn't Reccomended introducing them to any other hunting for at least their first two years and possibly forever unless you know you have an exceptional dog that just wants to please and be part of the "team" than you could maybe roll them over into some other hunting than.
 
Definitely true with mine... I probly worked her on sheds only for the first yr. she is a lab hound mix. She loves to retrieve, but also has a very strong chase instinct. She loves to antler hunt at home, and can smell them from 20 ft away..
There noses amaze me! It really gave me some insight to what a deer's nose is like when I got her..
I've hid an antler in the back yrd, buried it under leaves, in a thunderstor( heavy rain). And it took her about two min to find it and dig it up..
Also have seen instances where she seemed to smell a deer from 60-70 yrds away... ( stiffening up with nose into wind, we take a couple more steps and a deer blows and runs off straight up wind...

Amazing animals! Congrats on your pup.. I'd love to get another..
 
Looks like my ole Buddy Rascal,He is in dog heaven now,
But like what has been said that dog will chew the tires off your car,and dig everyones flowers up for about 9 months.
Never seen a blue eyed lab ...maybe they will change .I guess you have papers.

pups have blue eyes, they eventually turn brown. He really wont be that bad chewing, you just have to do your due diligence in training them and keeping their mind occupied. Id say most all puppy chewing comes from boredom.
