We also had the single largest reduction of (federal) public land in history today. I'm not sure what actual effects the designation changes with the transfer back to state, but I don't like the looks of it.

I offer this as information, not an opinion. I'm trying to figure it out. I THINK it returns national monument lands to public state lands. Even if that is right I'm not sure of the implications.

Trump dramatically SHRINKS Bears Ears National Monument and slashes another by half in the name of 'states' rights' as he says 'public lands will once again be for public use.

President announced plans Monday in Utah to shrink two sprawling Utah national monuments by nearly two-thirds after Obama expanded them

Trump plans to shrink Bears Ears National Monument by nearly 85 percent and reduce Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by almost half
Move is being called illegal by environmental groups and will be opposed by some, but not all, Native American groups
Trump said on his way out of Washington that his decision is a victory for 'state's rights'
A Navajo Democratic county commissioner told Trump's audience that expanding the monuments had put her ancestral lands off-limits
Riot police dispersed protesters outside a Mormon charity food-distribution center as Trump spoke to church leaders inside

He un-did a Federal Land grab giving it back to the States so the States residents could use as they see fit.

federal land reduction means the public can hunt on it again. be nice to draw a tag next year. should be some trophy animals available. i'm fairly sure hunting is banned on national monument lands.

travel ban, keeping us safer as promised, another check.

Combined with the news coming out of the Mueller investigation, which is making it more and more apparent that it is a politically-motivated witch hunt/fishing expedition, and the President has had a good week so far. :super:

I think both Bear's Ear and Grand Staircase were already Federal land, both BLM and Forest Service.
This ruling just puts them back to their original status and stops the additional protected status.

I don't know what it means (Utah land controversy) but if Obama originally did it and Trump undid it I am reasonably confident it is a good thing. I'm thinking we will be drilling for oil soon...

You are correct. They were Federal land before the Kenyan made his proclamation, and they remain Federal land after the Donald made his.

Digging though all the crap the tree huggers put out one would think President Trump sold off all the public lands to corporations.

He did NOT.

The very same land went from National Monument BACK to Federal land, both BLM and Forest Service. That's all.

This is a step back from the dangerous "Bio-sphere" United Nations program.

This is awesome! There is a lot of talk about changing immigration back to a merit based system.
Imagine having people with valuable skills coming to the country instead of people with no skills coming to mooch.

There is dangerous thought that America is like a giant liver that will filter out the toxins from any foreigner they dump in here. Jihadi muslim? Let em in ! they will see how much better America is and become a fan !
3rd world immigrant with no skills and some dangerous communicable diseases ? Let em in ! America is so superior, their germs will just up and die !

Could also mean that the state sells it off in parcels to private holders.

your concern is surely valid. came across a line that stated 70 % of returned land to the states are eventually sold off. if memory serves that was in an article sponsored by grindtv.

i have seen a state park back home that sold off enough land for a hotel/casino,restaurants and a golf course. ruined the state park atmosphere.

did a bit of research last night on the big controversy returning the lands to the state. actually the answer on hunting is a yes and no. all i could verify on bear paws was yes hunting is allowed. got sidetracked as to the status of national parks and monuments that are of more importance to me personally and the answer is quite varied as a general statement. general statement - there is no hunting in the monuments and parks with the big exception outside the monument boundaries. some have areas designated as preserves and those areas hunting is allowed. a potential hunter would need a map and have to check out each park/monument for their individual rules and areas. seems to be a classification issue for basically the same area.

trump did mention hunting when he spoke in utah at the signing. either one or both monuments may have had some issues as to hunting previously. we know trump gets his facts straight. ;)

i have 4 sure seen no hunting signs in parks/monuments. must be on the inside of the boundary. anytime while out and about scouting for potential new areas to hunt, national parks and national monuments raise a red flag for me. blm, national forests ,etc are usually always good to go.

Maybe because it’s a Republican vs Democrat thing. Obama did it, its wrong. Trump, it’s good. Left vs Right. Global Warming vs Manifest destiny.

1. National parks and national monuments, while both Federal land, are entirely different animals with different sets of rules.

2. The January 2017 article at the link below draws an entirely different conclusion from your statement above regarding hunting in national monuments, Bears Ears among them. I suppose it's possible the author is one of those Kenyan-loving anti hunters.
