I am curious how many of you retiree's make it just fine with one vehicle between you and your spouse?

That just seems risky to me .. but I do worry too much.
For now at almost 61.. we have 5 vehicles
Did tell the wife the other day that at my retirement there WILL be consolidation so to stop donating quite as much of my income to insurance
I think we will go to 3 vs 5. I'll keep one to pull a trailer with for my hobby stuff. And a gas mizer.. wife will definitely keep her SUV

I will have 2 vehicles at retirement. 1 for me (nice truck), and 1 for me (hunting and fishing truck).
Don't have a spouse, and don't see me having a spouse at retirement either.

We have two. Could not survive with just one. I use my pickup way to much for her to be home alone without a vehicle.

My wife quit driving about 10 years ago. Our daughter lives with us. We've gotten by with my truck and daughter's car just fine.
But if I could pick up a 3rd car it would be a "around town" car.

Best advice I got was buy a brand new one about 3 years before you retire so you have a reliable paid off vehicle. A feller can always have another one or two run around vehicles as long as they're paid for. I'm not retired yet but this is my plan. We will have two.

We have three.
The wife drives a Maxima, I have a Tacoma and a 1980 Jeep CJ5.
The CJ doesn't get driven very much.

My wife's car is five years old and has 8000 miles. We have two but clearly it's want not need
Retired & have two for myself, Dodge 2500 4x4 Mega Cab diesel (17 mpg) for hunting/fishing/towing and a Buick Lacrosse for town & travel (38 mpg).
Contemplated going to one and in Sept 2020 right before things went crazy bought a one year old Z71 with 7k miles on it. Hung on to the Dodge ang glad I did. Gas burner was just not enough truck for me. Kept the Chev for 16 months and sold it for a big profit. Bought the Buick and love it, nice as any Caddy I ever sat in.

That would be hard depending on how active each of you are trying to schedule things. We're picking up #6 in the morning. The wife and I have 3 and the 3 kids each have 1. Daughter is getting married Saturday so when the next insurance is due in 6 months she'll be off and we'll have 5.
Im not retired but i feel that would be a disaster in the making. I dont shop and she does. She dont hunt or fish and i do. I feel 2 people need 3 vehicles, one extra just in case one is in shop
We got 2 - 2018rav 4 (30k miles) and 2006 2500hd crew cab 4x4 (101kmiles) both paid for and I plan on retiring next apr-may. Wife doesnt work so I mostly drive the Rav to work now. The truck has been very lightly used in its life so far.
2020 Chevy pickup ( 42 K miles , 20 since I bought it last fall.. I burned up I-26 moving down here and carried stuff down just about every week)
2021 GMC ACADIA. 25k miles.
BOTH paid for so just insurance. Hopefully will hand down both to grandkids the way we hold onto cars.

So, maybe one real response so far. There doesn't appear to be very many married retirees with just one vehicle; much less ones that get along just fine with just one vehicle.
I retired the first of March this year. Sharon had already retired a few years ago.
We ended up with 3. Plus a fun car, we enjoy together.
Everything paid for. That's the key in my opinion.
But with that all said. We have talked about going down to 1 in the future.

Im in my 40's, I plan on retiring with a flying electric car and maybe a teleporting machine in my mudroom.
If that doesn't work out then my backup plan is a enclosed cab sxs, and a beater pickup to pull it till the pavement ends. Hopefully live in a small town where we can walk to everything, use the sxs to get around when weather is bad.

I have just one vehicle. Had 2 but got rid of one. In the future I may get a beater gas sipper. Like maybe next year. Out of 40 years, 20 of them I had 2 vehicles. When I had 2, one was always a beater car or truck the other one new or close to new.

I would have an old truck for hunting or taking the trash off. And a car or suv that got decent mileage.
