Rep. Duncan probes red-light traffic camera issue

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan Jr. thinks he knows why cash-strapped communities around the country are installing red-light traffic cameras, and it has nothing to do with making streets and highways safer.

It's about making money, he said.

I got one in O.R. for going 42 in a 35 , and it cost me $50. They like to change the speed limit every couple blocks to entrap people. I now boycott them, and avoid the town much as possible. IMO they are losing revenue with their unjust taxation.

Revenue is all these cameras are used for, and anyone that thinks different needs to do further investigation into the matter. The red light cameras here in Mt. Juliet were taken down a month ago because the city made a very low percentage of the money taken in and to pay personel to review the thousands of questionable "infractions" basically made it a wash and more trouble than it was worth. The city said in public they will not put them back up until they found a Tennessee company that offered this "service" and allowed the city a larger percentage of the revenue taken in....not a thing mentioned about safety!

I try to avoid any area where I know cameras are. Not that I break the law, but I do not agree with cameras entraping drivers.

I haven't spent a dime in Oak Ridge since they installed the speeding cameras, and won't.
