Removing crud ring in smokepole?

I have a small amount of fouling at the bullet seat in my Remington ML700SS. I have tried several cleaners to no avail. I have had this gun since '99 and it has been a dandy. I am thinking of buying a new one if i can't get this cleaned up. I saw those thumbhole stock Omega's @ wally world for $298, black on black.

Someone told me to try this, but I'am no gunsmith by any means. Place a cleaning rod tipped with a wire brush into a low speed drill. Insert thru the breech and try to remove some crud this way. Anyone have opinions on this? Could it damage my gun?

If your using T7 or other powder substitute just use plain ol water, dry completely and oil down.

If the ring is that hard to get out, are you sure it's fouling and not a ring of rust? I've had some pretty noticable crud rings when shooting Pyrodex, but it cleaned up with just a couple patches of Number 13.

I used to have to use a steel brush to get the crud ring out. Now I have switched to the Winchester Triple 7 primers and no more crud ring.

It sounds like you may have another problem.
like jakew said it sould clean up the heavier the buildup is the more it will probably take. I wouldn't take a wire brush aand drill to mine.

Try a soft bristle brush with good hot soapy water.
