Hey everyone, my brother recently passed and left me a few of his old rifles. One of them is a Remington 700 in 308 caliber that was not stored properly. It has some light rust on the barrel. Are there any tips on cleaning it up or any recommendations for a shop that could take a look at it? I'm in west Knoxville but I'll drive as far as needed to get it restored.

Steel wool and kroil should take care of that. After you get it cleaned up, keep a ballistol cleaning cloth handy to keep it wiped down with. My ultramag rusted up like that while in the guncase several years ago. Whatever that abdomination Remington called "parkerized finish" AINT! Youll have to stay on top of it from now on or the rust will come back, that's why I said keep a ballistol cloth handy. At the end of the day, mine is a hunting rifle, its been in more states, killed more critters, and on more hunts than I can count so a little surface rust just comes with the territory.

My 700 that sat at the bottom of a river for a couple weeks looked a lot worse than yours. I scrubbed the absolute hell out of it, sanded it down, and am planning to get it Cerakoted. Hopefully gonna hunt with it this season.
