A person I know took this during ML season. When he made the shot at 140 yards, he had no idea that it wasn't a whitetail doe also though he admitted she looked a little funny. He's been hunting this place for several years and uses cameras. She appeared once on the camera from well before the season started. From the photo she looks a little on the poor side. Anyway, he showed me these photos and first thoughts was it surely looked elk like. We finally decided on red deer. She's certainly a very old gal as the open mouth shot attests (notice ivories on top jaw). Our biggest question....where did she come from and where has she been all these years? BTY, this was in Marshall County in the Lewisburg area.

Very interesting, with those teeth she wasn't going to make it much longer

It's a red deer doe. He knew it wasn't a whitetail doe when he shot it but had already showed the local game warden the pics. Game warden's reply before and after it was shot is old ehd survivor whitetail doe. Not sure if it was in avoidance of paper work or not wanting to cause a stink. He had the go ahead to shoot it either way but was assured only a whitetail doe. Its skull is smaller than an elk cow but much larger than the biggest whitetail buck. The deer also had ivories like elk or red deer. Most figure it was from the fox cave fallow ranch next door that has been sold years ago. Where or how its been there since it shut down is the mystery.

Very interesting, especially about the fallow farm. Never heard of it and wonder when it closed. Nonetheless, how did that old girl wander around so long in that area without being shot before now.

Here is a red deer doe I shot in Texas two years ago. That could be a very old red deer but I am not sure.
