We are about to do some stump removel on a new food plot and are wanting to try and get something for a winter food source on the ground at the same time. I know the field needs lime But what would be best to throw down with it to try and establish something for Deer and Turkey. The soil is also very rocky.

Thanks ahead... We are heading down in 2 weeks to do this work...

Winter grain rye will grow very well on poor soil.

Ditto. Something like wintergrazer grain rye (not ryegrass).
That or wheat

I'm only recommending rye because Longhunter mentioned poor, acidic soil. Winter rye will do fine in the worst soils. Wheat tends to need a little better soil.

Do ya think I should mix the Rye with clover or wheat? If so what type and what coverage and mix? Also what about fertilizer or would I be better off putting down some
Pelletized lime?
Thanks
