The pipe that supplies natural gas to our heating/air unit is leaking. There is a shut-off valve that has cracked. The valve just needs to be replaced.

The gas company sent a guy out, and he said the leak is on our side and they can't fix it. He gave me a list of a few places to call.

I figured it's a really small job and I can do it myself. My neighbor said he thinks somebody gas certified/official has to do it.

What say ye?

I say it sounds like your neighbor is afraid you'll blow something up. :) He is most likely correct from a gas company liability stand point. If you do it yourself be sure to get the pipe dope for gas to prevent leaks.

Easy fix. Cut off gas supply @ meter Get some teflon pipe compound and replace fittings After repairing you will have to bleed air out of line. Then check every joint with soap and water to check for leaks. And relight pilots ( if not electronic)
