Just curious with the discussions about teachers. The poll won't show who you are. It could be you or your kids. Comment if you like.

EDIT: Okay, let me clear it up a little. I am asking how either you or your kids (one or the other, not both) got or are getting your education. NOT what you want, or think is best.

Not really sure of the question. We homeschool our son, but daughter went to public.

Edit...My wife works in special Ed at the local public elementary...same as where our kids went. Upon completion of elementary, we pulled our son out to homeschool him.
When you walk in the front doors...big "In God we trust" mural on the wall. They say the pledge of allegiance and pray every morning. Also, the principal is a Baptist minister. So our local school probably has a different environment than most big city schools.

I consider homeschooling our kids as one of the single best decisions we've ever made. Every year we give each of them the option to continue homeschooling or go back to the pubic schools around here (which are supposed to be the best in the state) and we only have one daughter who even remotely considers it.

What is the question?

My wife and I both went to public and all 4 of my kids have gone to public, 2 of them are still going to public schools. The school system my kids are in is one of the best in the area. If we could afford it, we would have considered private school. We are considering home school for our 11 year old son next year.

There are a couple private schools close by I would send my boys to if I could afford it, but they both are excelling in public school. Both kids have played on school sports teams with kids that are home schooled and those kids have been great teammates. A lot of people say that home school kids have issues with a social environment which can be true, but you wouldn't know it looking at their teammates.

Just curious, if you told your boys tomorrow, they could go to private school, would they want to?

I would say this is true if the parents are choosing to homeschool their kids to shelter them. It is a stigma for sure and in many cases, not unwarranted. That being said, there are so many social opportunities for our kids through community sports, church etc that it should not be an issue. My kids also all hold down jobs and can work in the afternoons while other kids are at school as they are almost always done by lunchtime. The social skills they are gaining from working are invaluable.

public school around here was pretty good for myself and my kids. two of my grandkids went to public school and got behind then they enrolled them in homeschool and did a lot better but still dumb as a box of rocks. one knows how to work and the other just knows how to play video games. my SIL girl failed the driver written test twice. i think they are worried about her getting into college. my other grandkid just turned 5 and is being homeschooled and he can already read and count to 100 forward and reverse and do simple math.

id say there are still some good public schools but the problem in our area is that there are not enough teachers.

The one that is a junior probably not, because he has a great circle and only one year left. The one that is 8th grade, not sure. He's the free spirited one. I can see him going either direction. Our oldest had great teachers just about his whole time in school. His brother has been through ups and downs of teachers quitting/retiring during the school year. We've had to stay on him to keep pushing in the classroom like he does in sports.

The TAFKAP boys are all in public schools. We live 10 driveways down from the local elementary school, and the city picks up and drops off in a big orange bus to go to the middle school

They'll likely go private for high school, but that's more their choice than mine. The high school where we're zoned is very reputable.

Teachers in school today are as weird or more weird than the California hippie freaks. Now just like politicians, there are some that are really dedicated, the others are part of the the woke political freak scene.

Homeschooling is great IF the parents are committed and capable.

I have seen a few kids come out of homeschool situation who were very naive about life and people. You can only shelter your kids for so long.

I agree. My wife has a cousin who homeschools both of her kids. She just barely was able to graduate from high school so I don’t know how she is teaching them anything. At the family reunion each year she brags about them being straight A students. I said “ yea I bet they were also homecoming queen and most popular girl in school ”.

So you put all home schools as bad because of one wife's cousin?? And you're satisfied that your kinds may just be taught to hate whites and America?

My son got a 33 on the ACT and was homeschooled and has a 4.0 through a semester and a half at Miss. State while working 30 hours a week. I agree that homeschooling can be manipulated if parents want to but they are really doing their kids a disservice if they do.

Never said all homeschools were bad. Read the post I responded to. “ If the parents were committed and capable.” I know plenty of homeschool kids who are smart. Know one who got a full scholarship to Vanderbilt for medical AND concert pianist. . Just not the ones whose parents are not smart enough to teach them but still want them at home.

My girls are in their thirties. In any event, they both attended public school. Maybe, if I could have afforded it, I might have sent them to private school. My opinion on home schooling is you have to be very structured. Additionally, I think a child is deprived of socializing when home schooled. I think it is imperative that children interact with other children. Yes, I know, a child is going to meet some undesirable kids. That's life, you cannot protect them 24/7.

My kids also were not taught to hate Whites and America because they went to a private Christian school.
It doesn't matter if it's public, christian, or home.....it's the teacher and those that run the school that need to take responsibility for educating.
