The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said that "change is the only constant in life."
It means that the world is always changing and so are people. Not only is change always happening, but it is also unavoidable.

I learned today that my job (of 23 years) is to be eliminated, effective Sept 23rd. At least I've got the option to stay, in a different position. (They asked me to take 2 paid days off and think it over.)

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

Sorry to hear your position will be eliminated. At least they are giving you the option to stay in a different position. You are 100% correct with your outlook and attitude.

I went through a similar event a year ago getting laid off and 2.5x'ed my income as a result. Not to mention it was just before bow season opened ;).

Been there done that back in 2008 when the housing all crashed. My wife and I had just bought a new car for her on Friday and Tuesday December 2nd I got told my job was being eliminated. Buddy and I were leaving on that Thursday to hunt Presidents Island. That was a Merry Christmas and ended up being a blessing in disguise. Prayers it all works out for the best.

That's really bad timing. I remember when things fell back then. It kind of reminds me of the way things are RN, similar economy etc.

They also decided to let another supervisor go in another department.

been through a few bad economies. late 80's into the 90's. when one door closes another opens. got out of one sector and went into another that couldnt be outsourced to mexico or china. now it seems technology is becoming more and more automated and companies are doing more for less.

good luck and prayers for you.

Sounds like you're being pushed for growth! There are so many opportunities out there right now! Grab ahold and march on!!

Wow, thanks for the heads up. And then sending you home to boot.

Pretty sure that you'll have numerous opportunities in this area for your line of work.

I assume you have PTO built up? Get to keep all benefits if you take the different position? Assuming its a lower pay rate?

Could you take it until you find something else and then tell them to kiss it?

Fortunately I never been laid off but did get my position eliminated due to a process change and had to take a shift job . Ended making more than I ever made in my life . You stated that you started doing some moonlight work, take the position they are offering and moonlight while looking for another job . First off leave it in the Lords hand with a prayer .

Happened to my wife a couple of years ago ( had been there 17years). An hour later one of her old employees offered her a job, she took it and loves it. She makes way less money but it is a 100% remote and she likes her job.
Hopefully it will be a blessing for you as well

That's what's odd- my pay and all benefits are staying the same. I get 36 days PTO per year, 5 paid Holidays, and 48 hours sick time.

They sent me home and paid me on their own, but I don't need that much time to make a decision.

It's going to be fine, it's not my preferred situation, but I'll deal with it.
