A little bird tells me that there have been VERY few comments submitted regarding a study of commercial Paddlefish Roe Fisheries in Tennessee.

This study could potentially lead to significant changes in commercial fishing regulations on several lakes in Tennessee. It would be wise for all anglers... sport and commercial... to share their two cents worth, no matter what your feelings.

The deadline to comment is Jan. 11. Read the details here: http://news.tn.gov/node/8179

If you care, here are my Comments sent to [email protected], and I cc'd my local Legislators:

Regarding the plan outlined by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to study Paddlefish Roe Fisheries (http://news.tn.gov/node/8179):

I have no specific objections or concerns regarding the methodology outlined in the plan. In fact it looks as if there is the potential for useful information to be obtained.

I do, however, greatly object to the funding for the research coming directly from TWRA's budgets. This study is being forced upon an already poorly-funded TWRA by members of the commercial fishing industry and legislators. The overwhelming potential for long-term benefit is for a select few commercial fisherman.

It is totally unfair to fund such a program directly with dollars gleaned from non-commercial Tennessee hunters and fishermen. I believe those dollars could potentially be used in others ways, for the benefit of all Tennesseans... not just the very few members of the commercial fishing industry.

Since the commercial fishing industry stands to gain the greatest (or total) benefit from the study, the industry should fund the study... or at the very least it should be funded by general fund dollars gleaned from all Tennessee taxpayers... not just hunters and fishermen.

Thank you for the opportunity to share my concerns.

I've already sent an email to several people including the one listed above. I got a response from Harold Cannon shortly after I sent him one. His instruction was to call or write the State Senators and Representatives for our area along with others you can think of. He also forwarded my email to several people that he thought it needed to be seen by.

Thanks RSIMMS
