I haven't personally so can't help you much but do have a couple of buddy's that hunt private and some public in northern Missouri....they see good deer most years and occasionally connect with one....one thing I would say is pack a lunch and sit all day....if weather is right the week your going could be perfect....both buddy's have experienced midday movement...but this practice is applicable anywhere you hunt in early November....good luck on your hunt, keep us posted.

I hunted a lot of Missouri public in college. If your hunting some of the mark twain national forest ground it holds some monsters, but they are spread out. If you go I would aim for the weekend and week leading up to Missouri youth season. Those have been the weeks I have seen some of the best bucks and the woods haven't been ran down yet.

I did. 4 years ago. Went with a buddy from here who has a big lease up there. It was up near the Iowa border. He had some stands up that were great for rifle hunting on the edges of big field, but weren't very conducive for bow hunting. So I took my climber. Good climbing trees were not in abundance. The landowner said that was a characteristic of that area. So I would carry a climber and either a saddle (if you do that) or some sticks and lock on. Or ground blind, if you so choose. Deer are big...really big bodied lol. Its nothing to see one 250 or better. And in the area I hunted, deer were certainly plentiful. It was a great mixture of field, with tree lines in and around, with a creek running through. In November, it will be cold. Maybe even super cold. So prepare for that. And the wind blows constantly. Blew 15-20 every day I hunted, and saw deer every sit. I didn't kill the buck I was after tho. Thought I was going to get to go back and didn't, so had to eat the tag. For what its worth, the price of the tag is super reasonable for what you get. Good luck and kill a biggun!

I was in Southern Missouri for rifle opener a few years back. Opening morning was 19 degrees with a 15-20 mph wind. It's not normally quite that cold from what I've been told.

anybody got a good link to public hunting grounds in Missouri?

Typically you can expect Conservation Areas to be a little more crowded than forest service. Forest service is not as well patrolled as state land, so more unauthorized interference (atv's, baiting). State land has more openings and planted areas, FS land is mostly wooded. In Southern Missouri, the first few does are coming in estrous around Halloween, with rut activity increasing for the first 2 weeks of November. There is usually a significant drop in rut activity after Nov 15 give or take. Feral hogs and bears are prevalent in areas of southern Missouri.

I have been tempted to go, I usually just hunt TN and KY and most of the time still have a buck tag to burn in one of the two is the only reason I haven't. I have seen some good ones duck hunting over there. Next year or the year after I am going to make a trip to either MO or Iowa. Have a few preference points for Iowa. May save them and hunt a friends private not sure yet.

Your more than welcome to tag along with me and my boy. Me and junior been making that trip for years. We always eat at a little Mexican joint next to where we stay. Last time junior got so drunk he tried to pay with 100 dollar bills that had Donald Trump printed on them. Good times
